I have decided that air travel is a really good model of the whole "God sees the bigger picture" thing.
Like how a plane with maintenance issues in New York can alter the entire course of your day even though you are nowhere near New York. The boys and I just came home from a visit with my parents in Pennsylvania. Our trip up to Pittsburgh was great. The return leg was not so great. We sat through plane delays, refueling issues, layovers until finally arrived home 5 hours later than planned. Do I think the airline was out to get me? No, probably not. It's just that air travel is a hugely intricate system of air traffic control, mechanics, schedules and people of which my boys and I were just a small part this week. Was I tempted to stomp my feet and scream at the gate attendants for being inconvenienced? Sure. But would it have been better to have flown out without enough fuel in the plane? Air travel, like life, is having to trust that the airline sees the bigger picture. Sometimes it goes well for us. Sometimes it's a big pain in the toosh.
"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End" says the Lord. When we accept God's sovereignty, His all-knowingness, His great plan, we also accept the joy that comes from trusting in Him. And when you're sitting in the Detroit airport with three little boys under the age of 5, that makes all the difference in the world.
SEE YOU SUNDAY. XOXO...Kelly
